A few years ago, I had the good fortune of participating in the Sankirtan festival of travelling to various cities and towns around Fiji. Many devotees both from Fiji and abroad attended this wonderful festival. I travelled with my god-brother, Adi Purusa Prabhu, and we were looked after so nicely that we thought we needed to train the devotees in our respective areas to the same standard.

Every day we went to a different location where we performed Harinama, sold books and had a public program in the evening. I still remember the ecstatic look on the faces of people who saw us do Kirtan. Sometimes we would go right into market stall area with our Gaura Nitai deities and people would come forward to offer respects and donations to Their Lordships.

We are very happy to know that we will be returning to the Fiji Yatra in June to join devotees from all over the world. I only have fond memories from the last time we were there for the opening of the Sigatoka Temple, and our around the Island Sankirtan Festival.

Fiji is such a beautiful place and the people loved to see the devotees chanting and dancing on the streets. Also the devotees in Fiji are famous for their 1st class prasadam and how they look after their guests. So I pray we will see you all there.

Everyone knows that Fiji is a first-rate holiday destination with its tropical climate and untouched beaches but a devotee’s “holiday” is really just more of the usual – prasadam, Sankirtan, and sadhu sanga festivities. The Festival of Fiji is just that and more!

I remember rip-roaring Harinam through the local markets and ending up on the front-cover of newspapers the next day. Literally rocking the cruise boat in kirtan with dozens of tourists on the way to remote islands. Sumptuous feasts with no less than twenty preparations. Visiting multiple temples and yatras on an island that could be traversed in a day. Meeting the sweetest and most welcoming devotees who have Bhakti throbbing through their island-nation. It really was a perfect adventure!
